Traffic and Television

Traffic is a subject normally dealt with as a news story, with specific services on the occasion of accidents or events that affect the whole road network, such as exoditions on holidays, holidays or long weekends.

The public television broadcasters include in their programming the traffic news with daily appointments on schedule. Although of relative utility for those at home, they serve to testify the existence of a national ICT – Traffic Information Center, guarantor of a continuous monitoring of traffic.

Commercial broadcasters sometimes plan traffic news, provided that cost coverage is ensured by a sponsor promoting products and services for motorists.

It is evident that any news story takes the attention of the viewer if accompanied by clear images and self explanatory of the event, especially if related to traffic information.

For this reason, the news is constantly offered by the broadcasters with a constantly updated graphic design. This is the direction in which Duel has been working together to provide traffic services to RAI and national and local mobility centres over the years.

The creation of a system of automatic production of the news traffic requires a specific know-how, both for the use of, or the creation of rendering engines for real-time viewing of the news on the cartography, techniques of geo-referencing and tracking of events.

Video news with “virtual on real” visualization of traffic events.

Thanks to the use of the Traffic Over Voice service platform, today Duel offers an innovative, unique and spectacular solution for the video representation of traffic information.

Traffic Over Voice processes FCDS (Floating Car Data) made available by TomTom with the traffic HDflow service, generating geo-referenced traffic events on the road network and sorted for impact on the roads.

For each event, a proprietary rendering engine creates a virtual auto animation, consistent with the traffic detected, and inserts it, with respect to the correct perspective, on a photographic or satellite image of the place where the event takes place.

Advantages for broadcasters

The broadcaster will simply need to choose the locations that will monitor and service TOV – Video of a Duel will automatically update and continuous animations, with a frequency of 3-4 minutes, in accordance with the detected speed of the traffic and for each selected location.

It will be care of the issuer to define the sequence of the airing of individual locations, based on the intensity of traffic already preordained by the system or other editorial criteria.
