The objective of each radio station is the increasing and the quality of the audience, where the contents and its schedule optimization are the tools to achieve them. Users In mobility, especially commuters, represent a very interesting target group.

These users, who select the broadcasters according to their specific sensitivity to the different proposed contents, may guarantee a continuous listening during the usual home-office itinerary, sometimes of considerable duration.

The disadvantage of “generalists” traffic news reports

Due to the broadcast distribution, the traffic information is generalist and not effective. Traffic news relate to the most important events in the catchment audience of the radio. The advantage of a platform offering selected information for a specific geographical area

Traffic Over Voice is the Duel’s proposal for radio stations that, apart from a duty of information, also intend to give a real and effective contribution to their listeners. With TOV, Duel offers a new and more effective way of publishing traffic information, immediately accessible and at marginal costs. It is a service platform, accessible via web through subscriptions, that produces traffic news in a natural language, selected for severity of events within a territorial base macroscopically defined by the broadcaster with a simple graphic circumscription on the map.

Ready and Timely: the Radio as a Navigator!

The Traffic Over Voice service elaborates TomTom’s Traffic HD Flow data, updated with a frequency of 2 minutes and includes short traffic forecasts (10 to 30 minutes)

According to the catchment area and severity, the news is transmitted at predefined intervals or with the intervention of the speaker during the radio program. Each traffic event is monitored by the system during its evolution, proposed for the transmission and re-proposed only in case of significant changes (large grow or reduction of queues) or when the event wore off.

The service is available in the USA, Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Italy and is in continuous expansion in the major western countries of the world.

PROJECTS

Duel has developed a software module for the translation of events from DATEX II format to XML format to feed traffic broadcasting systems on FM radio (RDS-TMC) and digital (TPEG). The translation system analyzes the DAG that represents DATEX II events and through a set of rules inserted in an appropriate inferential engine generates one or more DATEX events to be published describing, as faithfully as possible, the original event.
